Can I Trade on News?

Updated this week

πŸ“° Aeon Trading Policy: High-Impact News Events

This document details the policy regarding simulated trading during high-impact news releases across Aeon evaluation and funded accounts.

πŸš€ Evaluation Phase (Phase 1 & Phase 2)

Users are allowed to simulate trades on news events during Phase 1 and Phase 2 of evaluations across all account types.

Important Note on Risk

Since our simulated platform mirrors real markets, users must be acutely aware of the risks associated with slippage.

  • Trading based on news is not a direct violation of Aeon's rules during the evaluation phase.

  • Accountability: Slippage, similar to real markets, may occur. If slippage results in a violation of the Maximum Loss Rules, the user is held fully accountable.

  • Aeon cannot guarantee profits generated during high-risk news events or shield users from losses due to execution issues or slippage on the simulated platform.

🚫 Aeon Trader Accounts: News Restriction Rule

On Aeon Trader accounts (funded accounts), a strict news restriction period is enforced during high-impact news releases.

Restricted Time Window This restriction starts 10 minutes before the scheduled release and ends 10 minutes after the scheduled release. This creates a total 20-minute restricted window.

Prohibited Actions

The following actions are prohibited within this 20-minute News Restriction Period:

  • Trade Entry/Exit:

    • a. Opening new trades (market/limit orders).

    • b. Closing trades (market/limit orders).

  • Order Management:

    • c. Modifying Stop Loss or Take Profit levels.

    • d. Placing Buy Stop or Sell Stop orders.

Action Consequence: If any prohibited actions are executed within this 20-minute window, any profits earned during this specific period will be voided. This action alone will be considered a soft breach, and upon several violations, it may result in a hard breach and account termination.

Exceptions

  • Trades placed at least 8 hours prior to the news release are not subject to the restriction.

  • Trades on instruments unaffected by the specific news event (i.e., not listed below) are unrestricted.

Strategy Note

Trading on news events, including strategies like directional trading, straddles, or taking advantage of initial market movements, is not permitted on Aeon Trader accounts.
